Castle of Stockalper
The Stockalper Castle was built between 1658 and 1678 by Kaspar Stockalper vom Thurm (1609-1691) as a merchant’s residence. Although the palace was never completed during the lifetime of the great politician and entrepreneur, the three-towered monument is today considered a landmark of the german-speaking Valais region and the most powerful secular Baroque building on the territory of present-day Switzerland.
The magnificent building with its extensive historic gardens is actively used and visited. The castle property not only houses the administration of the municipality of Brig-Glis and the district court, but also offers space for various tourist and cultural facilities and events.
Guests who book a ViaStockalper hiking package can take part in an official guided tour of the Stockalper Castle.
